  1. Very nice! Can’t wait to get mine. My only concern is that the iphone sucks more juice when it is connected to power, so if you want to maximize the juice, you have to do it as described in the video. But, if you want to save cycles on your iPhone battery, you would need to leave it on all the time. I guess at least we have a choice of which option we want with the switch, just would be nice if apple would change the firmware to not behave this way…

  2. Is there going to be a model of the Mophie made with the Apple “standard” plug or is it only going to be mini USB? I have some hardware add ons that I plug into the iPhone or iPod that if I use the case for more battery power, now I can not plug in the accessories since the plug would be changed.

If it came with the standard Apple plug, that would be awesome, hook up all the extra’s AND have a bunch more power!

  3. @Bill: Hey Bill, sadly Apple does not license the 30-pin female Apple connector for use. The *micro-USB* is the future.

  4. Dang, April 30th now, huh? Guess I understand, being in the consumer business myself…

Yeah, people, pay attention! These use MICRO USB ends, not MINI USB. Luckily, I (mistakenly) bought the 3 spare MINI cables at Monoprice for like $0.81 each…the MICROs were a bit more expensive, but I think less than $2 each. So learn from my mistake!

  5. what material is it made from? plastic? metal?
and what are the power differences from the old iphone mophie juice pack 3g
i mean.. simple, the old mophie how many times it charges your battery?
this new “air” one, from what i understood from the video it charges the battery 1.5 times
which one is better (at battery charging) and how much better?

  6. ya.. why has a micro usb? what is the difference?
from what i understood (again) from other sources … it is a “battle” between the micro and mini usb ports but.. mini usb is more common in our electronics (external hdd, other phones, blackberry, psp, photo camera)

  7. Yeah, I don’t know about the micro/mini thing, but they are micro. I just got mine today.

Very impressed with it so far. Interesting thing though, and I’m glad it works the way it does. If you have the switch turned off (i.e., it is not charging the iPhone), and you plug the micro USB cable in, not only does it charge the air, but it charges the phone! I figured you would have to slide the switch over to charge, before it would charge the phone. Nice feature…must mean the switch does not actually switch direct power to the iPhone, but instead, it is a control input to some other electronics.

Way to go with this one Mophie. I like the build quality of this one. The only thing hard to get to, is the silence switch, when it has already been silenced, and you want to turn the ringer back on. Works fine, if you have any amount of a fingernail.

  8. @Jason: I will point out though, it is nice having the silence button protected more. I find mine switching states all the time from getting it in and out of my pockets…

  9. Mine arrived this morning, so I’m keen to test out its rescuing properties soon!

One thing I wasn’t sure about - my phone doesn’t appear to sit flush with the bottom of the case. It’s like there’s 2 a small gap either side of the iPhone connector. The top of the case slides on and it all sits correctly, but I was a little unsure about these gaps. Won’t they get stuffed full of pocket crud?

It’s like the molding of the plastic at the bottom doesn’t match the iPhone 3G’s curve.

Ah well, will see how we go!

  10. @Jason B. Standing: Hey Jason, those “gaps” are sounds ports for the speakers at the bottom of your iPhone. They are designed to direct the sound towards you when your juice pack is on the phone!

  11. Yep, one is a speaker, the other is a mic. Surprisingly, these gaps work rather well, even in speakerphone mode.

My only complaint, is the 1/2A charging current. If you are using an application that uses GPS (such as a game), and you are charging the juice pack air, the phone’s battery actually starts draining, because it cannot charge the air and the phone at the same time (when using GPS).

  12. Why don’t you make the Juice Pack Air for the 2g phone?!! They look so cool!!!

  13. Jason mentions his only complaint on May 8th: If the iPhone’s GPS is on (active) and the Air is charging (in standby mode?) then the iPhone battery actually drains and cannot charge since the current is only 1/2 Amp.
Is that correct? Is there is a distinction between the charging dynamics of the Passive GPS versus Active GPS modes?

I thought Mophie stated the Air and the iPhone will both charge when the Air is in standby and plugged in to active power.

  15. after 500 cycle runs out will the juice pack be good to use still? or should we think about purchasing something else.

    thx

  16. Taken from Mophie.com:

How many charge cycles do you get in the juice pack air™ for iPhone 3G & 3GS?

The juice pack™ is rechargeable for over 500 cycles. (Full cycles, partial cycles don’t count as full.
So, you can charge your juice pack 10% of the way 10 times before it counts as a complete cycle.)
Don’t be afraid to top it off! After 500 cycles, its fully charged capacity will be less than 75%
of the the capacity when it’s new.
